Founder & Developer

I build free, accurate financial calculators because I got tired of the alternatives — most were outdated, hidden behind sign-up walls, or simply wrong. During tax season I found myself cross-referencing results against official rate tables, so I decided to build the calculator site I wished existed: one that is always free, always current, and completely transparent about how every number is derived.

Calks.uk is part of a network I have built from the ground up. I started with calk.kz for Kazakhstan, then expanded to calk.nz for New Zealand and calk-au.com for Australia. Every site is adapted to local tax law, rates and financial systems — not a copy-paste translation. Calks.uk is the latest addition, built specifically for UK legislation and the 2025/26 tax year.

Our Mission

Calks.uk provides over 330 free, accurate online calculators for people living and working in the United Kingdom. We cover income tax, salary, mortgage, pension, VAT, stamp duty, National Insurance, business rates, benefits, motoring, health, construction, energy and everyday tools — all updated for the current UK financial year.

Our goal is straightforward: take complex UK financial calculations and make them accessible to everyone, instantly, without spreadsheets, paid software or an appointment with an accountant. Whether you are checking how much income tax you owe, working out a mortgage overpayment, or estimating your take-home pay after a raise, you should be able to get a clear answer in under a minute.

We believe that financial literacy starts with access to the right tools. A first-time buyer should be able to see the true cost of purchasing a home — including stamp duty, solicitor fees and mortgage costs — before speaking to a broker. A self-employed contractor should be able to estimate their tax bill at any point during the year. And a family should be able to check their Universal Credit or Child Benefit entitlement without navigating a confusing government website.

Privacy First

Every calculation on Calks.uk runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No personal data is collected, stored or sent to our servers. We do not track what you calculate, and we never will. There are no accounts, no logins, and no personal data to breach.

This is a deliberate architectural decision. Financial calculations are inherently sensitive — your salary, mortgage balance, tax situation and pension savings are private. By running everything client-side, we eliminate the risk of data leaks entirely. Your numbers never leave your device.

We use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which calculators are most popular (so we can prioritise improvements), but we do not use fingerprinting, tracking pixels or cross-site advertising profiles. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Accuracy & Sources

Every rate, threshold and allowance used in our calculators comes from official UK government sources — primarily HMRC, GOV.UK, the Bank of England and the Office for National Statistics.

We update all tax-related calculators at the start of each UK financial year (6 April) and whenever mid-year changes are announced. Every calculator displays the tax year it applies to, so you always know which rates are being used. Our full verification process is described on the Methodology page.

That said, our calculators provide estimates for guidance only. Individual circumstances vary, and we always recommend verifying results with HMRC or consulting a qualified accountant, financial adviser or solicitor before making important decisions.

How We Are Built

Calks.uk is engineered for speed, reliability and accessibility:

  • Astro 5 — every page is pre-rendered as static HTML at build time, delivering near-instant load times
  • React — interactive calculator components load on demand using the "islands" architecture, keeping initial page weight minimal
  • Tailwind CSS 4 — responsive design that works seamlessly on phones, tablets and desktops, with full dark-mode support
  • Cloudflare Pages — global edge network ensures fast delivery from the nearest data centre, anywhere in the world

The result is a site that scores highly on Core Web Vitals, loads in under a second on most connections, and works perfectly without JavaScript for content (calculators require JS to be interactive). The entire site is pre-rendered into over 350 static HTML pages, which means no server-side processing, no database, and no single point of failure.

Part of a Network

Calks.uk is part of a growing network of country-specific calculator sites, each built from scratch for local legislation:

  • calk.kz — Calculators for Kazakhstan (Kazakh tax code, tenge formatting)
  • calk.nz — Calculators for New Zealand (IRD rates, KiwiSaver, NZD)
  • calk-au.com — Calculators for Australia (ATO rates, superannuation, AUD)
  • calks.uk — Calculators for the United Kingdom (HMRC rates, workplace pensions, GBP)

Each site is adapted to its country's specific tax system, currency formatting, financial year dates and regulatory framework. This is not a one-size-fits-all translation — it is ground-up development informed by years of working with each country's financial rules.
